Last Sunday, I pieced together a post about my Upper Canada ancestors for the Upper Canada Heritage Society certificate offered by the Ontario Genealogical Society (Toronto, ON).

This week, I explain another heritage society that OGS offers a certificate of membership.

The 1837 Rebellion Society is open to any person who can prove that they are descended from an individual who was:

  • charged with being a rebel;
  • a member of a militia unit that was mobilized during the rebellion;
  • a member of the regular army, who was in Upper Canada during the rebellion;
  • named as being involved in some form with the rebellion and its aftermath

[A processing fee applies: $40 for OGS members, $80 for non-members]

The example for this certificate is my oldest son, Junior (G1), the only child of my first marriage (G2), and, grandson of Miriam R. HORTON (G3); Miriam, a daughter of David H. HORTON (G4); David, a son of William G.L. HORTON (G5); William, a son of Susanna K. HOLCOMB (G6); Susanna, a daughter of Drayton HOLCOMB (G7) and Keturah SKINNER.*

[For my observant readers: Yes, Keturah SKINNER was a daughter of American Revolutionary Patriot, (Private) Daniel SKINNER, who was buried with his wife, the former Mary SMITH, in Eldred Cemetery (Lumberland, Sullivan County, NY)].
